Phil’s background

Phil helps you improve the productivity of your assets and lift your performance.

He specialises in strategic review, social innovation and the creation of shared value – where economic benefits for business go hand-in-hand with positive societal outcomes.

Phil formerly worked as a financial research team leader at Colonial First State Global Asset Management, responsible for $40 billion of investment exposures. His insight and experience helped his firm navigate through several financial crises.

He also took on a leadership role, advocating for a deeper understanding of how environmental and social factors affect company performance, which helped his firm on the path to becoming a global leader in this field.

On becoming an independent practitioner in 2008, Phil spent time researching and developing frameworks for understanding the drivers of organisational performance. This was in response to his own observations that intangible assets, such as human capital, relationships, intellectual property and capabilities, were the main drivers of business performance.

Since 2008, he has provided services to major corporations, SMEs, industry associations, government, education providers, social enterprises, community service providers, activist organisations, charities and NGOs.

Phil conveys his expertise through keynote speaking, workshops, facilitating conversations, consulting services, his newsletters and as a regular commentator for the Leadership section of the online publisher, Business Spectator.

He enjoys living with his family next to the second oldest national park in the world – the Royal National Park (near Sydney, Australia) – and is an active Toastmaster, keen runner and an overly optimistic musician.
