Bio & Clients

After hitting a rough patch and deciding to leave his successful corporate career, Phil visited a nearby community organisation only to be truly humbled by the size, scale and complexity of their challenges.

Disillusioned with philanthropy and corporate social responsibility as the only ways businesses can help address social needs, he became a pioneer of ‘shared value’ principles, where business goes hand-in-hand with society rather than head-to-head to create significant and lasting change.

He coined the phrase ‘social imagination’ to describe how these types of strategies and initiatives are identified and implemented.

In 2013, he was invited by Harvard’s legendary Professor Michael Porter and strategic philanthropist, Mark Kramer, to help form a network of global practitioners and hasn’t looked back since, working with blue chip companies and organisations across all sectors.

As a leading independent practitioner in his field, Phil empowers businesses and leaders to develop their social imagination so that:

  • Businesses can develop profitable social initiatives
  • Non-profits are able to increase their leverage and impact; and
  • Government becomes an effective facilitator of business-community partnerships.

In addition to his strategy and facilitation work, Phil is an accomplished keynote speaker.

Phil supports several social programs, social enterprises and RUOK? Day conversational leadership events. He is also a lover of coffee, chocolate and red wine and usually consumes them in that order throughout the day!
